Case Study: Security System Take-Off for Dispute

A dispute had arisen following a post-contract failure of the Security System at a new build prison. The building contractor hired our client to pursue a claim against the security system sub-contractor following a serious onsite incident involving inmates. Our client engaged a specialist legal and commercial management company to handle the claim and Emerald Business Bureau was enlisted as an “extra pair of hands” in the preparation of legal documents.

Our Role

Provide specialist administrative support to an in-house team of legal and commercial management specialists preparing litigation documents on behalf of our client (construction industry dispute consultant).

How We Helped

  • Carried out a review of the original Tender documents to identifythe detailed requirements of the Security System
  • Our review included examining the Specification, Room Data Sheets, Drawings, Gap Analysis Reports produced by the Prison and System Test Reports and System Surveys.
  • Compilation of Scott Schedule of Equipment required at tender stage on a room by room basis, highlighting shortfalls inthe information provided at the outset.
  • Security System Drawing Take-Off, for each drawingrevision, to highlight changes to the system, enabling changes to be traced back to the originator.
  • Checking, formatting and proofreading of documentsbefore they were issued to parties involved in the dispute.
  • Our analysis identified there was a creeping increase in the number of cameras installed throughout the build, but that the camera footage storage capacity had not been increased to accommodate this.

Our Client Says

We have used Emerald Business Bureau to provide secretarial and forensic quantity surveying roles for several years. The skill, knowledge of the construction industry and cost-effective service they provide is invaluable, and I see no reason to revert to an in-house service.
